The Golders Green FIDE Rapid is one of the UK’s longest-running monthly chess tournaments, first established back in 1990. Held in London, it has become a regular and trusted event for players of all levels – from young beginners to seasoned adults.
Delancey UK Schools’ Chess Challenge
The Delancey UK Schools’ Chess Challenge (UKCC) is one of the largest junior chess tournaments in the world and a major highlight in the UK junior chess calendar. Running annually since 1996, it has seen over 1 million children participate – including several who went on to become grandmasters!
British Chess Championships
The British Chess Championships is a long-standing and famous event in the chess world, a series that has run almost unbroken since it first began in 1904 in Hastings. Junior sections have been included since 1923. The 2025 event will be the 111th British Chess Championship. The championship venue usually changes each year and has been held in various locations across England, Scotland, Wales, and once on the Isle of Man.
CSC Junior Grand Prix
The CSC Junior Grand Prix is a series of fun and competitive chess tournaments for children aged 6–18, run by the national charity Chess in Schools and Communities (CSC).
These events follow the same format and are held regularly in North London. Children can join one or several tournaments – each event is a great standalone experience, but results from multiple tournaments also count toward the overall Grand Prix leaderboard.
EJCOA National Youth Championships
The English Junior Coaches and Organisers Association (EJCOA), founded in 2019, is a national non-profit organisation made up of over 350 junior chess coaches and organisers across England.
