Chess Rising Stars London Academy was founded in 2017 by WFM Maria Manelidou, who is recognised as a Level 4 (International Level) coach by the English Chess Federation. Co-founder Savvas Manelidis also contributes as a teacher.

Weekly Sessions:
Chess Rising Stars offers a variety of weekly sessions:
- Chelsea Chess Club: Saturdays, 4:00 – 5:30pm, for ages 6+ at
- Chelsea Chess Club (5-7): Saturdays, 2:00-3:00 pm, specifically for children aged 5-7.
Both clubs are held at Marlborough Primary School, Draycott Avenue, SW3 3AP.
- Wimbledon Chess Rising Stars: Sundays, 4:00 – 5:30pm, for ages 6+. This club is held at William Morris House, 267 The Broadway, London, SW19 1SD.
- Online Chess Clubs: Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
- Elite Online Club: Offered by invitation only to the strongest Chess Rising Stars students.
Who Can Join:
Chess Rising Stars welcomes children and adults of all levels and ages, from beginners to advanced players. The Chelsea and Wimbledon clubs specifically cater to beginners, intermediate, and advanced junior players. No prior chess knowledge is required for the junior clubs, although it is suggested that children without a background in chess join the younger Chelsea club by week 3 of the term.
How much does it cost:
- Chelsea Chess Club (6+): £30 per lesson when all 10 sessions are booked in advance, or £35 per single lesson.
- Chelsea Chess Club (5-7): £20 per lesson when all 10 sessions are booked in advance, or £25 per single lesson.
- Wimbledon Chess Rising Stars: £30 per lesson when all 10 sessions are booked in advance, or £35 per single lesson.
- Sibling discounts are available for term bookings at the Chelsea and Wimbledon clubs.
- The cost of private chess lessons is not specified, please contact the club directly.
Competitive Opportunities: Chess Rising Stars provides numerous opportunities for competitive play:
- Internal tournaments with prizes are held weekly at the Chelsea and Wimbledon clubs.
- Students can participate in online chess tournaments designed for Chess Rising Stars students, parents, and friends.
- More experienced students are supported to compete in online and over-the-board individual and team competitions, including local, national, and international tournaments.
- Chess Rising Stars students have achieved success in events such as the National Primary Schools’ Chess Championships, the Desert Penguins Junior Chess Championships, LJCC Finals, and the Junior 4 Nations Chess League Online.
Alumni Achievements: Chess Rising Stars students have demonstrated notable achievements in various junior chess competitions. Examples include first-place finishes in the Desert Penguins Junior Chess Championships, LJCC Finals, Oxon LJCC Qualifier, Berks & Bucks, EJCOA National Youth Finals, and Oxfordshire Junior Chess Championships. Chess Rising Stars teams have also won divisions in the Junior 4 Nations Chess League Online.
Additional Information:
Chess Rising Stars also offers private lessons, chess camps, and school programs. Their online platform provides access to training materials, session recordings, and interactive coaching to support students’ development.
The Chelsea Chess Club is recognised at Level 2 within the English Chess Federation’s Junior Development Pathway initiative.
